How to Install Windows XP on an HP Compaq

If you need to install Windows XP on your HP computer, it is important to have the right tools at your disposal. Installing a new version of Windows XP, or reinstalling an old one, is not difficult, but it is important to have the right information before you get started.

 Difficulty : Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need :

    - Windows XP CD
    - HP or Compaq restore CD
    - XP license key
    - Thumb driver or external hard drive

1.  Locate the XP license key label on your Compaq or HP computer. If your computer is a desktop, the label should be located on the top of the case. One some tower cases the XP license label will be located on the side, and for laptops the label will be attached to the bottom of the unit. You will need this license key to install or reinstall Windows XP.
2.  Find the restore CD that came with you HP or Compaq computer. When you first bought you computer it should have come with a restore CD, as well as a CD that contained the Windows XP operating system. You will need both of the CDs to restore your computer and reload the operating system.

3.  Back up any user files you need because the restore process will format you hard drive and erase your files. Use a thumb drive or external hard drive to save your files so they can be reloaded later.

4.  Insert the restore CD in the computer's CD or DVD drive, then shut down and restart the PC. The computer will automatically boot from the restore CD, and you will be prompted when it is time to install the operating system.

5.  Insert the Windows XP CD when prompted. During the installation of the operating system you will be prompted for the license key, so have that key available.

Try it, good luck..:)
